You can. A lot of people believe that they can’t own anything for a period of time after filing for the bankruptcy, but that is not accurate. The exempt property that is discussed in another blog and it can go over is something that you keep. You can keep pretty much anything after the bankruptcy is filed.

However, there is a large exception if you received an inheritance, a property settlement or life insurance benefits within 180 days after your bankruptcy. That money or property may have to be paid to your creditor if the property money is not exempt. You can also keep any property that is covered by the bankruptcy exemptions through the bankruptcy.
