The best practice is simply not to stop parenting time on your own unless it is an emergency, but to file what is called a “Complaint for Modification” explaining the circumstances of the risks.  You can always file an Emergency Motion along with that and an Affidavit as well.

It can be particularly persuasive if you are able to get documentation from a doctor or another medical professional explaining why the child would be at risk with the situation or some other neutral person, but you can still file an Emergency Motion at any point.

The court is not just allowing every Emergency Motion, so you really have to have specific information in it to ask that it be an emergency basis rather than on a temporary basis on a regular Complaint for Modification.
