This can be a complicated question depending on the allegations and what would likely be found.  Sometimes I have had cases that have been unsupported even when someone comes back with a positive for things such as marijuana. When the allegations are more serious drug use there is a question about whether you want to do a hair follicle or urine screen or not at all and you are likely to pay for it.  Also, you want to make sure ahead of time where it would get done and whether that would be satisfactory to DCF or not. Sometimes you could ask to have one done at your primary care physician, but since that is not one that you are supervised in. Sometimes DCF won’t take those results.  It is an important one to determine and you might even want to think of that ahead of time.  Even is you have a positive drug screen, it does not mean that your child will be removed it depends in part one what the drug use is for and how long ago and whether it is a hair follicle test or urine screen. It is a very important decision though on whether you want to use drug testing or not.
